STORRS, CT (WFSB) – Although the UConn men got knocked out of the tournament, the women’s team will play in the second round Monday night.
They will take on South Dakota State at 8 p.m. in Storrs.
Students say they started lining up to ensure they get a front row seat to the action at around 2 p.m. on Sunday.
The game against the Jackrabbits will be the final one at Gampel for the season.
“Today is not only the women’s last game, it’s Paige’s last game on campus ever. That’s a really big deal. I was here for men’s senior night 2 weekends ago and I really enjoyed being so close to the court. I was like I have to keep doing this,” said Tristan Culhane, UConn junior.
Doors open at 6 p.m., but fans have been waiting all day to snag courtside spots.
Hannah Couliard and Jennifer Nevill lined up 30 hours before tip-off at the north entrance of Gampel.
“We have our blankets and we have our whole set up. I have pillows and UConn tortilla chips certified,” said Couliard
They wanted to make sure they got first pick of the seats in the student section to cheer on the women.
“We want to be in the front. The front is the best spot. We did it for senior night. We have to do it for the last game at Gampel and end it out strong,” Nevill said.
These two have student tickets to the game, but their section is general admission.
They want to make sure they have first pick to be front row.
“You get to see all the action up close, so what’s there not to love,” explained Couliard.
The pair is hoping to be up close to see their favorite player one last time.
“We have been going to a lot of of the games and cheering them on and we enjoy watching the journey. Paige has a special place in all of our hearts. We want to be there for all of them,” Nevill said.
They already have tickets to the final four in Tampa, so the students are keeping their fingers crossed that they will get to see UConn on the court.
There are still some tickets left to see the Huskies play in Gampel Monday night.
