Instant draft grade: Detroit Lions grab athletic safety with upside in Round 7

Free Press columnist Shawn Windsor breaks down the Detroit Lions’ seventh-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft, at No. 230 overall on April 26.

Dan Jackson, Georgia, safety, 230th overall

Brad Holmes digs tape and in-person evaluation whenever possible, and Jackson’s physicality and performance at the Senior Bowl surely caught his eye. But what Jackson did at Georgia’s pro day couldn’t have gone unnoticed. The safety ran a 4.46 40-yard dash, the kind of speed that should have earned him an invite to the NFL Combine.

Jackson projects as a special teams player with his ability to track the ball and pursue. Anything more would be a bonus. He needs work on his change of direction and tackling when changing direction. He had a career-high 64 tackles at Georgia as a senior, forcing one fumble and intercepting two passes.

The grade: B-minus
