Free Press columnist Carlos Monarrez breaks down the Detroit Lions’ third-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft, at No. 70 overall.
Isaac TeSlaa, Arkansas, receiver, 70th overall
Were there bigger needs? Sure. But was there a bigger potential sleeper and budding freak athlete who stands 6 feet 4, ran a 4.43-second 40 at the combine and could give the Lions an even bigger advantage in the passing game? Probably not. But that potential could come at a price, since Isaac TeSlaa projects as a big-target slot receiver who might need time to develop.
I love the aggressiveness from Brad Holmes going after a skill position. But sending Jacksonville two third-round picks next year to move up 32 spots (plus getting a sixth-rounder this year and next) is a lot to give up for a position that’s far from crucial. Now the Lions don’t have a fourth-round pick (or a fifth-rounder) and still haven’t addressed their top need: edge rusher.
The grade: C-plus
