The Detroit Lions announced on Thursday that eight different players are changing their jersey numbers with the team, while also announcing the numbers for the incoming players from free agency.
Most notably, Jameson Williams is switching from No. 9 to the No. 1 jersey, while running back Jahmyr Gibbs has gone from No. 26 to No. 0.
It’s no surprise that Williams eventually made the switch to No. 1. When the Lions traded Jeff Okudah a few years back, Williams said he wanted that number, but eventually opted not to take it. Williams wore the 1 during his breakout college year at Alabama.
Also notable, 2024 first-round pick Terrion Arnold is going from 0 to No. 6, taking the number left unclaimed after Ifeatu Melifonwu signed elsewhere in free agency.
Here’s a full list of the number changes, along with the previous number held by each player:
- RB Jahmyr Gibbs — 0 (previously 26)
