Irving-based Dynamic Prep, which has only existed for three years, knocked off a titan in high school boys basketball on Wednesday.
The program, founded and coached by former NBA star Jermaine O’Neal, defeated defending national champion Montverde Academy 67-52 in the opening round of the prestigious Chipotle Nationals tournament at Hamilton Southeastern High School in the Indianapolis area.
Four-star SMU signee Jaden Toombs led the nationally ranked Dallas-area prep school , and all players, with 18 points and 12 boards. Dynamic Prep will face Missouri’s Link Academy in Thursday’s quarterfinals. Dynamic Prep beat Link, the 2023 national champion, 62-56 in November.
Ahead of Chipotle Nationals, the team finished 31-4 this season after playing a schedule that included a mix of UIL schools, out of state programs and opponents in its league, Texas Christian Athletics League.

This season, the Dynamic Prep boys only lost to other nationally-ranked schools. In November, it fell 58-55 to Allen, the UIL 6A Division I state semifinalist and Throne national championship runner-up, and 88-86 to San Antonino Brennan, ranked No. 1 in Texas for most of the season before its loss in the 6A Division I state semifinals.
The school also dropped games against Columbus (Fla.) and IMG Academy (Fla.), which are both nationally ranked and will appear at Chipotle Nationals this week. Dynamic Prep beat Missouri’s Link Academy, another Chipotle Nationals invitee and the 2023 national champion, 62-56 in November.
A TCAL state champion in 2023 and 2024, Dynamic Prep boasts some of the top players in the state and nation. Four-star SMU signees Toombs and Jermaine O’Neal Jr. rank third and ninth in the state, respectively. Five-star sophomores Ryan Hampton and Marcus Spears Jr. rank first and second, respectively, in Texas in the Class of 2027. Hampton is the second-ranked sophomore in the nation.
