Legendary Hollywood Star Considering ‘Giving Up’ Acting at 55

A two-time Oscar winner might leave Hollywood behind at the age of 55.

Cate Blanchett has already had a legendary acting career that includes a whopping eight Oscar nominations. She won her first Academy Award in 2005 for her supporting role in Martin Scorsese’s “The Aviator.” It wasn’t until 2014 that she captured her second Academy Award for her lead performance in “Blue Jasmine.”

Roughly a month ago, Blanchett starred in Steven Soderbergh’s latest film, “Black Bag.” Though she’s not expected to add another Academy Award to her trophy room, she did receive plenty of praise for her performance.

Despite being one of the powerful performers in the film industry right now, Blanchett is seriously contemplating retirement. During an interview with the Radio Times, she opened up about her future as an actress.

“My family roll their eyes every time I say it, but I mean it,” Blanchett told the Radio Times. “I am serious about giving up acting.”

Blanchett is considering moving on from acting because there are “a lot of things” she stills wants to do with her life.

Whenever Blanchett ultimately walks away from acting, she’ll leave behind an incredible legacy. What makes her work even more impressive is the fact she wasn’t even sure about making it big in Hollywood.

“I was resigned, happily, to a career in theater. I didn’t think I was that girl,” Blanchett said at the Rotterdam Film Festival earlier this year. “There was a sense women had a certain ‘shelf life’ in the film industry and a certain type of women got to parade on the screen and others didn’t.”

Blanchett’s next film, “Father, Mother, Sister, Brother,” is scheduled to come out later this year. It’s a comedy drama that also stars Adam Driver and Vicky Krieps.
