Men’s Tennis Heads to Mobile for Showdown with South Alabama – Troy University Athletics

TROY, Ala. – Looking to bounce back after a slow start to open Sun Belt play, the Troy men’s tennis team heads to Mobile to take on South Alabama on Saturday morning at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts. First serve is set for 10 a.m. Troy (14-6, 0-2 SBC) fell to Georgia Southern and Coastal Carolina last weekend to open its conference slate. Prior to those losses, the Trojans had won their previous nine matches.

Hiiro Sakamoto continues to pace the Trojans with a 16-2 singles record this spring. He’s 9-1 in his last 10 matches. He’s 9-1 when playing in the No. 4 spot and 7-1 at No. 5. Also putting together strong seasons has been Luciano Alcocer, who is 12-2, and Yeray Andres Pastor, who is 12-3. As a team, Troy is 69-34 in singles action since the start of the spring.

Doubles play has also been a strong area for the Trojans this year, as the team is 32-17 in dual play. The duo of Alcocer and Sakamoto are 14-5 in dual matches and are the Trojans best pairing. Henrique de Brito and Pastor are 9-0 in doubles and have played all their matches at No. 1 or No. 2.

The Trojans are 11-2 this season when taking a 1-0 lead thanks to a doubles victory. South Alabama (4-10, 1-1 SBC) opened conference play with a 4-1 win over Coastal Carolina, but fell to Georgia Southern last time out.
