Michigan basketball PG Justin Pippen to enter transfer portal during March Madness: Report

The Michigan basketball season hasn’t ended yet already somebody is on the move.

Justin Pippen, a freshman point guard and son of NBA Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen, has decided to enter the transfer portal, per reports Monday. This is the first day of the portal window opening despite March Madness entering its second weekend.

Pippen did not travel with the Wolverines to Indianapolis two weekends ago for the Big Ten tournament after reportedly suffering concussion symptoms, and was not present with U-M the past week in Denver during the team’s NCAA tournament victories over UC San Diego and Texas A&M to reach the Sweet 16.

Pippen, a 6-foot-3, 180-pound playmaker out of Los Angeles (Sierra Canyon High School), saw the court 28 times as a Wolverine, averaging 6.7 minutes and 1.6 points per contest. He made 12 of 44 attempts (27.3%) from the floor and 8 for 30 from long range (26.7%) to go with 16 assists compared to just nine turnovers.

Pippen was rated a four-star combo guard per 247Sports composite rankings when he came out of high school, graded as the No. 12 player in California, No. 13 combo guard nationally and No. 105 player in his class regardless of position.

“Pippen is a naturally talented guard with good instincts for the game,” wrote 247Sports analyst Travis Branham before he joined U-M. “He is very comfortable with the ball in his hands to score from all three levels and also set the tables for those around him. As he continues to grow and fill out his frame, Pippen can become a highly impactful high-major guard, much like his brother did at Vanderbilt before him.”

Pippen also reportedly held offers from programs such as Georgia Tech, Stanford, UC Santa Barbara, Georgia and LSU.
