On Thursday night thousands gathered in Green Bay, WI for the first round of the 2025 NFL draft.
Like every sporting event, the draft kicked off with the national anthem from country music performer Stephen Wilson Jr., who took to social media to show off his excitement.
“honored to perform our nations anthem this evening at the 2025 #NFLDraft: Thursday Night (April 24) on NFL Network + ESPN at 7:45PM ET. 🇺🇸,” he said in a post on social media.
While he was clearly fired up for the draft in the hours before his performance, he appeared to lack some enthusiasm when it came time to actually belt out the anthem. The country music performer stumbled into his rendition of the anthem with a guitar riff before stumbling through his words the rest of the way.
Fans were less than pleased.
“That s*** was terrible. He sounded like he was channeling Bob Dylan if Dylan was trying to sound like Eddie Vedder,” one fan said bluntly.
“Got what we deserved letting this happen in Green Bay,” joked another – who clearly missed out on the massive crowd in attendance.
“FREAKING TERRIBLE. Dude was not even HALF INTERESTED,” claimed a third.
“Yeah, shouldn’t have been him,” suggested another.
The NFL clearly missed the mark with this one – at least according to the initial reaction on social media.
