SAN JOSE, Calif. — NHL leading goal scorer Leon Draisaitl exited the Edmonton Oilers‘ game against the San Jose Sharks on Thursday night with an undisclosed injury.
Draisaitl appeared to get hurt midway through the second period and skated gingerly to the bench before leaving to go to the dressing room. He did not return to the game, which the Oilers won 3-2.
Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch did not have an update after the game, saying the team would know more Friday.
With the win, Edmonton kept pace with the Los Angeles Kings in the race for second place in the Pacific Division and home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs. The Oilers trail the Kings by two points headed into their game Saturday night in Los Angeles.
Draisaitl had an assist in the second period. He leads the NHL with 52 goals and is third in the league with 106 points.
Draisaitl missed four games last month with an undisclosed injury.
The Oilers are already without star center Connor McDavid, who has been sidelined since colliding with Winnipeg’s Josh Morrissey on March 20.
