A man was arrested Tuesday after a report of someone with a gun inside Fairview Hospital in Edina sparked a lockdown, according to authorities.
Edina Police Chief Todd Milburn said the incident in a hospital room involved a “domestic assault or domestic dispute”, during which the suspect reportedly produced a gun.
The 911 call just before 3 p.m. activated a major law enforcement response, with surrounding streets blocked off and the hospital placed into lockdown for approximately one hour.
Milburn said the suspect has been arrested in a nearby city Tuesday afternoon in connection with second-degree assault.
No shots were fired, Milburn said. Investigators have recovered a firearm.

Police have not confirmed whether the incident involves the hospital directly. However, KSTP reports via a source that a family member of a patient entered the hospital armed with a gun, causing a lockdown to follow.

This is a breaking story. We will update with more information as it is confirmed.
