CLEARWATER, Fla. — Multiple injuries were reported after a boat crashed into a ferry carrying dozens of people near the Memorial Causeway Bridge Sunday night, according to the Clearwater Police Department.
Officials with the Clearwater Police Department and Clearwater Fire and Rescue are on the scene.
Rob Shaw with the Clearwater Police Department said 42 people were on the ferry at the time of the crash. Five people were critically injured in the crash, police said.
Several serious injuries were reported, as 10 ambulances and two helicopters responded to the scene to take people to the hospital.

Officials said a call reporting the boat crash came in at 8:43 p.m. on Sunday.
Officials said the boat that allegedly crashed into the ferry fled the scene, and authorities are searching for the vessel.
The U.S. Coast Guard is taking the lead in the investigation.
