The Red Sox 125th home opener takes place Friday afternoon with a newcomer to the pitching staff getting the honors on the mound.
Walker Buehler (0-1, 8.31) will match up against the St. Louis Cardinals’ righthander Erick Fedde (1-0, 1.60) with first pitch set for 2:10 p.m.
The home team’s lineup is mostly the same as it’s been in the first week, with one exception — Carlos Narvaez will be behind the plate over Connor Wong.
The Sox are 72-52 all-time in their home openers, including a 63-50 mark at Fenway Park.
Seven Red Sox players — including Buehler — will be making their Fenway Red Sox debut Friday. The others: Alex Bregman, Kristian Campbell, Aroldis Chapman, Garrett Crochet, Carlos Narvaez, Sean Newcomb and Justin Wilson.
The opener kicks off a stretch of games in which the Sox will play 14 of their next 20 games at home. The Red Sox are currently in the middle of a stretch that sees them playing on 15 straight days, 20 games in 21 days and 30 games over the next 32 days.
Boston owns an 11-14 mark against St. Louis in the regular season. The Cards took two of three in St. Louis last year and were swept by the Cardinals at Fenway in 2023.
