The time has finally come for Red Sox rookie Kristian Campbell to make his move to the corner of the diamond.
Boston manager Alex Cora told reporters in Atlanta on Friday that Campbell will make his first base debut in Sunday’s series finale against the Braves at Truist Park, according to MassLive’s Chris Cotillo.
“I’m looking forward to trying it out on Sunday and seeing how it goes in games for the first time ever,” Campbell said, per Cotillo. “I’ve been working on it every day.”
Campbell began the process of taking reps at first base on May 16 to give the Red Sox options after Boston lost Triston Casas to a season-ending patella injury. He has played 43 games at second base and eight in the outfield this season for Boston. Despite not having experience on the corner, Campbell is confident he can handle the position.
“First time ever playing first base in a live game,” Campbell said. “I think they’ve trained me well. I think I’ll be prepared. I think I’ll do fine out there at first base.

“I know what all the other positions have to do because I’ve played pretty much all the other positions. I’ll just adjust on the fly and learn as I go.”
