Saw XI reportedly reverse bear trapped itself

Saw XI appears to be trapped in a needle pit. Per Bloody Disgusting‘s sources, which we all promise to take with a grain of salt until further confirmation, the latest sequel in the 20-year-old horror franchise is off. Though we have not received official word that Saw XI has succumbed to Jigsaw’s sadistic games, Bloody Disgusting‘s sources claim Sax XI is “totally dead” and “100% over” for “almost a year now.” Furthermore, the publicity site for Sax XI appears to have been pulled down, while the press page for 2007’s Saw II remains active, so it’s not a great sign for a movie that was supposed to come out six months ago. The site currently advertises an updated September 26, 2025, release date for Saw XI.

Saw XI was supposed to hit theaters about a year after the box office success of Saw X, a surprisingly fun entry in the long-running series that features a scene in which a man pulls the marrow from his bones. It’s a good time. But after releasing a teaser image advertising a September 27, 2024 release date, we’ve neither been forced to play a game nor seen our favorite tricycle-riding marionette wheeling around. Apparently, “everything went sideways in January 2024[…] producers started fighting,” and when one tried to “plow ahead,” another “put up roadblocks.”

Lionsgate did not immediately respond to The A.V. Club‘s request for comment, but they should immediately respond to one of their most lucrative and long-running franchises going belly up. Despite its incoherent mythology, redundant structure, and revolting subject matter, Saw lived well past its sell-by date. Criticized initially as a prime offender of torture porn, Saw continued, surviving multiple reboot attempts and finding an audience for its back-to-basics tenth mainline installment. Considering the no-good, very bad summer Lionsgate trudged through in 2024, which included Borderlands, The Crow, and Megalopolis all bombing, a pick-me-up from Jigsaw at the end of September might’ve turned some fortunes. Alas, who knows what will become of our little spiral-obsessed clown puppet? Bloody Disgusting‘s sources say it might be headed for a reboot at a different studio but, in the end, believes “greed and ego won the day.”

We’d still like to play if anyone is interested in the slightly used Saw franchise.
