TO GET OUT OF PRISON. HAPPENING NOW, FIRST AT NOON. WINSTON-SALEM POLICE ARE SEARCHING FOR THOSE RESPONSIBLE FOR A SHOOTING THAT LEFT ONE MAN DEAD JUST AFTER MIDNIGHT. OFFICERS RESPONDED TO A DISCHARGING A FIREARMS CALL ON TOWN SQUARE DRIVE THAT’S OFF PETERS CREEK PARKWAY AND STAFFORD VILLAGE BOULEVARD. POLICE FOUND 21 YEAR OLD MILTON GUILLEN SUFFERING FROM MULTIPLE GUNSHOT WOUNDS. WE’RE TOLD HE DIED AT THE SCENE. INVESTIGATORS HAVE NOT RELEASED A SUSPECT DESCRIPTION AT THIS TIME. WE ARE TOLD THIS CASE IS BEING TREATED AS A HOMICIDE. HAPPENING NOW IN BURLINGTON. POLICE HAVE MADE A SECOND ARREST IN CONNECTION TO A DEADLY SHOOTING BACK IN FEBRUARY. TERRENCE EVANS JUNIOR IS BEHIND BARS WITH NO BOND. HE’S FACING COUNTS OF FIRST DEGREE MURDER AND POSSESSION OF A FIREARM BY A CONVICTED FELON. INVESTIGATORS SAY HE SHOT STANLEY GILLUM BACK ON FEBRUARY 19TH AT A HOME ON QUEEN ANNE STREET. THE 39 YEAR OLD LATER DIED FROM HIS INJURIES AT A HOSPITAL. EARLIER THIS MONTH, POLICE ARRESTED JOHN MOORE, THE FOURTH, AS AN ACCESSORY AFTER THE FACT TO GILLIAM’S MURDER. HE’S ALSO CHARGED WITH POSSESSION OF A FIREARM BY A CONVICTED FELON. NOW TO SURRY COUNTY, WHERE FIRE CREWS ARE WORKING TO CONTAIN A LARGE WOODS FIRE THAT’S CLOSED PART OF HIGHWAY 89. THE NORTH CAROLINA FOREST SERVICE SAYS THE BLAZE ON LOWGAP MOUNTAIN IS NOT CONTAINED AND HAS BURNED 65 ACRES SO FAR. DOZENS OF UNITS HAVE BEEN ON THE SCENE OF THIS FIRE SINCE YESTERDAY. IT’S BURNING NEAR WEST PINE STREET AND THE VIRGINIA STATE LINE. FIREFIGHTERS FROM BOTH NORTH CAROLINA AND VIRGINIA ARE ON THE SCENE. THE FOREST SERVICE SAYS IT’S SENDING PLANES AND HELICOPTERS TO SPRAY THAT AREA. ACCORDING TO THE SKULL CAMP FIRE AND RESCUE, HIGHWAY 89 IS CLOSED SO THAT CREWS HAVE ROOM TO WORK AND RURAL HALL. AUTHORITIES SAY A LAWN MOWER CAUSED TUESDAY’S BRUSH FIRE NEAR LINDALE LANE. WE ARE TOLD EXHAUST HELPED TO IGNITE THESE DRY LEAVES AND GRASS CLIPPINGS. NO ONE WAS HURT, BUT IT TOOK 30 FIREFIGHTERS TO CONTAIN IT AND IT DID BURN 12 ACRES. SEVERAL EVACUATIONS HAVE BEEN ORDERED IN MCDOWELL COUNTY AS CREWS WORK TO CONTAIN THE BROCK BRANCH FIRE. THE NORTH CAROLINA FOREST SERVICE SAYS THE FIRE HAS BURNED MORE THAN 500 ACRES AND IS 10% CONTAINED. FIREFIGHTERS SAY THEY ARE WORKING TO PUT IN CONTAINMENT LINES AND PROTECT STRUCTURES, INCLUDING SEVERAL HOMES, SIMILAR TO THE BLACK COVE COMPLEX FIRE IN POLK COUNTY. A FEW WEEKS AGO. CREWS ARE BEING CHALLENGED WITH HURRICANE HELENE DEBRIS AND STEEP TERRAIN. THEY’RE GOING TO BE WATCHING FOR REALLY HOT SPOTS. AND THINGS, POTENTIALLY JUMPING OVER THE LINES SO THAT THEY CAN JUMP ON THAT REALLY QUICK AND PUT IT OUT BEFORE IT GROWS. THERE WAS A REALLY HOT SPOT THAT WAS COMING OUT. THEY CALL IT A FINGER WHERE IT COMES OUT AND BRANCHES OUT A LITTLE BIT. AND SO THEY HAD PEOPLE COME AND HELP MEDIATE THAT. THERE IS NO WORD YET ON THE CAUSE. IN CLAY COUNTY, CREWS ARE BATTLING THE WEBB CREEK FIRE. THE STATE FOREST SERVICE SAYS SO FAR IT’S BURNED 150 ACRES AND IS 70% CONTAINED. One person has died and 21 are injured after a school bus carrying 35 students overturned on Interstate 77 in Chester County, South Carolina, according to officials. The school district provided a statement to WCNC, which revealed that three buses were carrying students from Pine Ridge Middle School back home when one bus overturned. “EMS is on the scene, along with other emergency responders, law enforcement agencies, and district/school personnel. EMS is assessing everyone on the scene, and some students are being transported for further evaluation.”
