WICHITA FALLS, Texas — Sheppard Air Force Base was put on lockdown Friday morning as security forces responded to what they called an “active shooter report” near the southeast side of the base, according to their Facebook page.
No more details about the reported shooting were initially released.
The Sheppard AFB Facebook page also said sweeps were being conducted in the area after immediately securing Sheppard Elementary School. In an update just before 11 a.m., officials said nothing had been found to indicate a shooting, but the base remained on lockdown and sweeps would continue.
The air force base is located in Wichita Falls, about two hours northwest of Dallas. NewsChannel6 in Wichita Falls reported that drones were deployed to help search the area.
There were not any more details available about the situation Friday morning.
