Sky guard Courtney Vandersloot becomes franchise’s all-time leading scorer — by passing her wife

As the Chicago Sky take on the Dallas Wings on Thursday, veteran Sky guard Courtney Vandersloot had a chance to make some history. During the Sky’s 97-92 win over Dallas, Vandersloot became the franchise’s all-time leading scorer, surpassing none other than former Chicago guard Allie Quigley — Vandersloot’s wife.

Vandersloot only needed nine points to pass Quigley, but finished with 13 on Thursday. She also put up nine assists and five steals in the narrow victory.

Quigley and Vandersloot met while playing for the Sky and have been married since 2018. Quigley played her last WNBA season in 2022, finishing with 3723 points across 10 seasons in Chicago.

Pregame, Vandersloot joked to the WNBA about the dynamics of one-upping her wife: “I’m happy it’s my wife, but it’s my turn now,” she said.

According to Vandersloot, Quigley is supportive of Vandersloot surpassing her record.

“She said that if it had to be somebody, she’s happy it’s me,” Vandersloot said.

Vandersloot, who is in her 13th total season with Chicago, decorates the top of the leaderboard in several categories, including points, games played, assists and steals. Quigley does still hold a few of the franchise’s all-time records, including three-pointers — and with Quigley at 504 total three-point field goals and Vandersloot at 329, it might take a while for Vandersloot to surpass her wife on that one.

The guard pair overlapped for all 10 of Quigley’s seasons in Chicago. Vandersloot spent the first 12 seasons of her career with the Sky, before joining the New York Liberty in 2023.

The veteran guard, after winning a WNBA championship in New York, returned to the Sky in the offseason, giving the young Chicago team some much-needed veteran leadership. Now, Vandersloot has a chance to cement herself in Sky history — but at least she’s keeping it in the family.
