Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has hinted he will rotate his starting XI against Wolverhampton Wanders on Sunday, with an emphasis on younger players.

The Reds secured progress to the Europa League semi-finals on Thursday evening with a dramatic and outrageously entertaining 5-4 victory over Lyon in extra-time. While everybody is buzzing about the result, the game was understandably taxing on the squad and Amorim wants to protect his players from the threat of injury. Ruben has hinted he must now prioritise the Europa League and that could lead to younger players being granted opportunities to shine in the Premier League.

Speaking in his press conference to preview the match against Wolves, conducted on Thursday night, the boss gave this insight into the plans.

“I have to see it, players like [Diogo] Dalot, they are always ready but today he was really tired,” he said. “The guys that are at risk to have an injury, we will try to save them so we will see tomorrow [Friday].”

Asked if our young players are ready for the Premier League, Ruben admitted this season is not the best time to blood a new generation.

But he also pointed to 18-year-old defender Ayden Heaven as a good example of somebody who grasped their opportunity with both hands.

“I think it is not the best moment or the best season to put some kids to play, because, again, they need a strong base to really show what they can do. But in this moment we need to do it and sometimes you have surprises.

“Ayden just played and I can be honest, we did it because we had injuries in that moment. But today, I think Ayden is my player so when he is ready and facing the competition in the team, he is ready to play. So you don’t know. “Amass did really well. Chido, when he played, he played quite well. It is a difficult moment, it is not the right moment for the kids to play, but if we have to do it then we will do it.”

Amorim also confirmed in his press conference that Victor Lindelof and Noussair Mazraoui will be available on Sunday, after both had to deal with “personal issues” during the Lyon game.
