RENTON — The Sounders, winners of two straight, have a chance at their first win streak of the 2025 MLS season on Saturday.
Seattle is in Colorado for a matchup against the Rapids. The Sounders posted shutouts in their past two outings against FC Dallas (1-0) and Nashville SC (3-0).
Midfielders Cristian Roldan and Obed Vargas helped the Sounders contain stars like Lucho Acosta and Petar Musa of Dallas and Nashville’s Hany Mukhtar and Sam Surridge. The Sounders will have to do the same against Colorado forward Rafael Navarro. The Brazilian has five goals in nine matches, all starts.

One more run
The Sounders made it through the week without any injuries or setbacks other than center back Jackson Ragen still being out with a hamstring pull. That means there’s a debate on whether Sounders coach Brian Schmetzer rolls with the lineup that secured back-to-back wins or slots designated players Jordan Morris (adductor) and Albert Rusnák (adductor) and defender Alex Roldan (quad) back in their spots because they’ve been healthy the past two weeks.
Seattle’s attack is lively with midfielders Jesús Ferreira and Pedro de la Vega. Paul Rothrock has played well on the left wing for the Sounders and forward Danny Musovski netted a goal against Dallas and Nashville.
Unknown in goal
Rapids keeper Zack Steffen will serve a one-game suspension against the Sounders. The U.S. international was shown two yellow cards, one after the final whistle, for dissent in Colorado’s 2-2 draw against Houston last week.
Backup keeper Adam Beaudry is out with an ankle injury, likely making Nicolas Hansen the starter. The 23-year-old was signed earlier this month from the Rapids’ second-tier team.
Quotable
“If you go somewhere else and it’s not out of your own will, you’re probably going to be like, ‘I’m going to show them they made the wrong move’ even though it worked out,” Sounders keeper Stefan Frei said of Rapids midfielder Josh Atencio. The Bellevue native was traded in February by Seattle to Colorado for up to $1.6 million in general allocation money. Atencio has started eight matches for Colorado. “From my view, we didn’t let him go because we questioned his ability. He’s a very, very good player with a high ceiling. I’m excited and happy that he’s able to get going with his career. I wouldn’t expect anything less that he’s going to be pumped and wanting to show what he’s capable of against us.”
