TANZANIA: THE Taifa Stars are gearing up with confidence and determination for their upcoming World Cup Qualifiers Group E clash against Morocco, set to take place tomorrow at the Stade Municipal in Oujda. Despite the challenges posed by a formidable Moroccan side, the players are ready to give their all.
Skipper Simon Msuva underscored the significance of this match for Tanzania’s World Cup aspirations. “We are here to fight for the qualifier and a win in this encounter will mean a great deal for the country,” Msuva stated.
“It will extend our chance to qualify for the World Cup and we are prepared to give it everything we’ve got. We will fight until our last breath.” Tanzania currently ranks third in the qualifier campaign, having earned six points from three matches. They have secured two wins and suffered one loss. The only match they lost was against Morocco, while they achieved 1-0 victories over both Zambia and Niger.
The group winner will qualify directly for the World Cup and the runner-up may have the opportunity to compete in the second round for a chance to advance to the inter-confederation play-offs.
Msuva also discussed the tactical approach the team plans to adopt to counter Morocco’s possession-based style of play. “It’s all about commitment. We need to lunge out, press and increase the pace to beat our opponents. They prefer possession rather than pace and we believe that if we play with intensity, we can succeed,” he explained.
Defender Shomari Kapombe recognised the difficulties posed by Morocco, especially on their home ground, but remains optimistic. “The match will not be easy given the profile of Morocco and the fact that we are playing away. However, we have a plan in place and we will do our best to execute it,” Kapombe noted.
Forward Seleman Mwalimu echoed similar sentiments, expressing confidence in the team’s capabilities. “Tanzania has a good squad and with the experience we have, I believe we can do better,” Mwalimu said.
He also mentioned the team’s adaptation to the cold weather in Oujda, stating, “The weather here is cold, but we have adapted perfectly to it.”
