Steph Curry, Nikola Jokic questionable for Monday’s Warriors-Nuggets game

Warriors guard Stephen Curry scored 28 points and added seven rebounds and five assists in his previous game, a 97-94 win Saturday over the New York Knicks at Chase Center.

Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry is questionable to play Monday against the Denver Nuggets at Chase Center, according to the NBA’s injury report. Curry is nursing a right lower back strain. He’s played Golden State’s last 21 games. 

The Warriors also host the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday. 

Curry, 37 and in his 16th season, is having another banner year as one of the NBA’s best players, averaging 24.3 points, 4.4 rebounds and 6.1 assists in 58 games. He’s shooting 44.7% from the field and 39.6% from 3-point range. He’s made 257 3-point shots, third to Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards (270) and Detroit Pistons guard Malik Beasley (264).

Earlier this season, Curry was plagued by bilateral knee tendinitis. He first missed a November matchup against the Oklahoma City Thunder and missed part of five back-to-back matchups in order to manage the pain.

Curry returned to playing back-to-backs Feb. 5-6 against the Utah Jazz and Los Angeles Lakers. Feb 5 is when the Warriors agreed to acquire star wing Jimmy Butler from the Miami Heat. Feb. 6 is when the trade was officially executed. In the 16 games since Butler’s team debut, Curry has averaged 28.6 points, 4.1 rebounds and 6 assists while shooting 48.8% from the field and 41.4% from 3-point range.

The Warriors have won 14 of 16.

“Winning is fun … and it’s contagious. … I’m excited about where we’re at.” Curry said Saturday after a 97-94 victory over the York Knicks.

Rookie big man Quinten Post is also questionable with right ankle soreness for Golden State. He averages 8.4 points, 4 rebounds, 1.5 assists and shoots 41.5% from 3-point range. At 7 feet, his shooting, screen setting, passing and defensive presence complement primary and secondary units.

Brandin Podziemski (lower back strain) will miss his fifth straight game for the Warriors. He averages 10.1 points (42.7% shooting, 31.9% 3-point shooting), 4.9 rebounds and 3.4 assists as a combo guard.

In the eight games that preceded his injury — suffered 44 seconds into a March 6 victory over the Brooklyn Nets — Podziemski averaged 14.6 points (41.8% shooting, 31.3% 3-point shooting), 6.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists. 

He’s targeting a return Tuesday against the Bucks, head coach Steve Kerr said Saturday.

Reigning NBA MVP Nikola Jokic (29.1 points, 12.8 rebounds, 10.3 assists), standout guard Jamal Murray (21.5 points, 6.1 assists) and forward Aaron Gordon (13.4 points, 4.8 rebounds) are questionable for Denver.
