After a curtailed Monday at the Madrid Open due to a nationwide power outage, Tuesday promises to be an absolute blockbuster, with Aryna Sabalenka, Alexander Zverev, Iga Swiatek and Taylor Fritz among those taking to the court.
23:30 CET – In the final game of the day from Madrid, the impressive Casper Ruud has knocked out Taylor Fritz in straight sets, winning 7-5, 6-4 to secure a quarter-final spot.
23:04 CET – Marta Kostyuk is playing some fabulous tennis in Madrid this week, and has now moved into the quarter-finals with a really imperious 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Anastasia Potapova.
21:32 CET – Two-time Madrid Open champion Aryna Sabalenka has made light work of Peyton Stearns, with the world number one moving into the quarter-finals with a 6-2, 6-4 win.
21:14 CET – Ninth seed Daniil Medvedev was given a stern test by American Brandon Nakashima in Madrid, but the Russian battled back to eventually seal a 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory and book a spot in the quarter-finals.
20:00 CET – Novak Djokovic has announced that he will not be playing at the Rome Masters, which begins on May 7th, meaning he will head into the French Open having not won a single match on clay this season!
19:39 CET – Men’s top seed Alexander Zverev has been sent packing in Madrid, with the German falling in straight sets to clay-court specialist Francisco Cerundolo, 7-5, 6-3.
The Argentine, who also beat Zverev at the same stage in last year’s tournament, will face Czech teen Jakub Mensik in the quarters.
18:21 CET – After defeating Ons Jabeur and Jessica Pegula, Moyuka Uchijima continued her remarkable run in Madrid, this time defeating Ekaterina Alexandrova, 6-4, 7-6(5), to reach the quarter-finals.
17:41 CET – Monte Carlo runner-up Lorenzo Musetti continues to showcase his clay-court credentials, defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas in a really entertaining clash, 7-5, 7-6(3). The Italian trailed 4-1, 40-15 in the first set, but staged a stunning comeback as he moves into the fourth round.
17:14 CET – Elina Svitolina has continued her fantastic recent form, winning her 10th match in a row after beating Maria Sakkari, 6-3, 6-4.
16:43 CET – Number five seed Jack Draper has moved into the Madrid last 16 after his opponent, Matteo Berrettini, unfortunately had to retire from the contest after the Brit won the first set, 7-6(2).
16:37 CET – Lucky loser Gabriel Diallo is through to the fourth round in the Spanish capital after recovering from a set down to defeat Cameron Norrie 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.
15:48 CET – After his third-round clash was suspended yesterday, Grigor Dimitrov has finished off the job this afternoon, sealing a 6-4, 7-6(3) win over Jacob Fearnley.
15:22 CET – Miami Open champion Jakub Mensik has continued his really good form, easing past Alexander Bublik, 6-3, 6-2.
Australian Open champion Madison Keys also had little issue, swatting aside Donna Vekic in Madrid, 6-2, 6-3, to reach the quarter-finals.
14:54 CET – Second seed Iga Swiatek withstood a spirited comeback from Diana Shnaider to seal her place in the quarter-finals via a 6-0, 6-7(3), 6-4 triumph. The Pole will face either Madison Keys or Donna Vekic next.
14:09 CET – Tommy Paul is the latest man through in Madrid, with the American battling past Karen Khachanov in a topsy-turvy affair, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.
13:37 CET – Alex de Minaur was given a good test from Denis Shapovalov in the second set of their clash, but in the end, the Australian sixth seed had too much quality, coming out on top, 6-3, 7-6(3).
13:32 CET – 16th seed Frances Tiafoe is the first winner of the day in Madrid, easing into the last 16 with a comfortable 6-3, 6-3 victory over Alexandre Muller.
12:00 CET – Play is set to get started in the coming minutes in Madrid, in what is set to be a jam-packed day!
09:53 CET – We’re just over two hours away from play getting underway in the Spanish capital, as women’s second seed Iga Swiatek takes on Diana Shnaider and Alex de Minaur comes up against Canada’s Denis Shapovalov.
Later on, Aryna Sabalenka, Alexander Zverev, Madison Keys and Jack Draper all take to the court, while Taylor Fritz faces Casper Ruud around 21:30 CET in arguably today’s standout clash.
