The Masked Singer’s Griffin Revealed? We ‘Don’t Want to Wait’ Any Longer to Share Our Theory

Now that The Masked Singer has introduced us to the members of Season 13’s Group B, we’re ready to take a creek — sorry, a crack — at guessing one of their secret identities.

The Group B premiere revealed Bat to be Vanderpump Rules star Scheana Shay, and we’ve already expressed how obvious it is that Space Ranger is Flavor Flav (that voice is simply undeniable!), so let’s turn our attention to one of the more elusive contestants — Griffin.

Based on the clues we heard from Griffin in last week’s debut, coupled with his impressive performance of “Rewrite the Stars” from The Greatest Showman, we’re convinced that Griffin is none other than James Van Der Beek, best known for playing the title role on The WB’s Dawson’s Creek.

Some of Griffin’s clues were a little more niche, like the badge being a reference to Van Der Beek’s 2001 film Texas Rangers, and a VHS tape with a jack-o’-lantern sticker on it, which could be a nod to the actor’s uncredited appearance in 2000’s Scary Movie.

But here’s the clue that sealed it for us: In discussing his sudden rise to fame at a young age, Griffin recalled a woman scraping dirt off his car and bringing it home to her children. It was a wild story, but also a familiar one; Van Der Beek first told it during a Reddit AMA in 2014 while promoting the short-lived CBS sitcom Friends With Better Lives.

It’s also worth noting that a major piece of Griffin’s story is that he has a new appreciation for life, a sentiment Van Der Beek expressed when he recently went public with his colorectal cancer diagnosis.

With that suggestion planted in your head, it’s impossible not to hear Van Der Beek when you revisit his Greatest Showman performance:

Do you agree with our theory that Griffin is Van Der Beek? And which celebrities do you think are masquerading as the other members of Group B — Boogie Woogie, Pearl and Space Ranger? Drop a comment with your own Masked Singer guesses below.
