The Detroit Tigers were scheduled to play two games against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday to make up for a rainout on Wednesday night, with ace Tarik Skubal set to take the mound in the first matchup against Andrew Heaney.
Thursday’s game was postponed due to an inclement weather forecast as dark clouds filled the sky above Comerica Park.
As the day rolled on, the Tigers’ X account updated fans on the situation, revealing a new start time for game one of the doubleheader.

“Game one of today’s doubleheader is now expected to begin at 1:50 p.m. Scheduled first pitch for game two remains scheduled for 5:40 p.m.,” the Tigers’ X account announced.
Clouds in the background looked ominous as the Tigers prepared to take on their National League opponents, who are managed by former Tigers utility outfielder Don Kelly, a long time Detroit fan favorite.
“Yo tell the Pirates to start Skenes game 1,” one fan said, hoping for a Tarik Skubal-Paul Skenes matchup.
“FINALLY,” another fan said with a highlight clip of the Tigers ace.
Another shared a screenshot of the weather system in the area as they questioned the day’s big announcement.
“Switch Skubal please,” another fan said after word broke that the Tigers starter chose the early game without knowing whether the Pirates star Skenes was pitching or not.
Detroit beat the Pirates on Tuesday night, a big win coming off of a series loss to the Cincinnati Reds at Comerica Park previously.
