Titans signing wide receiver Van Jefferson

Jordan Schultz is reporting that the Tennessee Titans are finalizing a 1-year deal with free agent wide receiver Van Jefferson who spent last season with the Pittsburgh Steelers where he had 24 catches for 276 yards and two touchdowns. It makes no sense to me why they would sign Jefferson to a 1-year deal instead of signing Nick Westbrook-Ikhine to a 2-year deal. Jefferson is pretty clearly a downgrade there.

The really sad part of this is that he is now the second most productive receiver on the roster. In fact, his 137 catches, 1,876 yards, and 12 touchdowns in his 6 seasons are more than the rest of the receivers not named Calvin Ridley have combined in their careers. If the plan is to draft Cam Ward, it’s going to be a tough first year with this receiver room.

Jefferson was a second-round pick by the Los Angeles Rams back in 2020. He played his high school football in middle Tennessee while his dad was the receivers coach for the Titans.
