Trump’s ‘Happy Easter’ Message Filled with Vengeance and Vitriol

If you only saw Donald Trump‘s first Easter message on Truth Social, you might be surprised at how normal it reads. But barely 60 seconds went by before he returned to his usual self.

“Melania and I would like to wish everyone a very Happy Easter!” Trump posted Sunday morning on Truth Social. “Whether you are heading out to Church or, watching Service from home, may this day be full of Peace and Joy for all who celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. HE IS RISEN!!”

That message was immediately followed by a screed blasting his enemies, including “Radical Left Lunatics” and “WEAK and INEFFECTIVE Judges and Law Enforcement Officials.”

“Happy Easter to all, including the Radical Left Lunatics who are fighting and scheming so hard to bring Murderers, Drug Lords, Dangerous Prisoners, the Mentally Insane, and well known MS-13 Gang Members and Wife Beaters, back into our Country,” the president wrote.

Trump is likely referring to efforts to bring back deported immigrants — including Maryland father Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who the administration has repeatedly admitted was wrongfully deported — from detention in El Salvador, where they have been subjected to inhumane and cruel conditions. Although Trump officials have called the deported men “the worst of the worst,” in truth, approximately 90 percent of them had no criminal record in the U.S., and they all were denied due process before being sent indefinitely to a foreign prison. And he wants to send more. Trump has skirted questions on the issue, claiming he is “not involved,” even though he and El Savador’s President Nayib Bukele discussed the issue in the Oval Office just three days earlier.

The president continued, “Happy Easter also to the WEAK and INEFFECTIVE Judges and Law Enforcement Officials who are allowing this sinister attack on our Nation to continue, an attack so violent that it will never be forgotten!”

The Supreme Court earlier this month ruled unanimously that the Trump administration must “facilitate” Abrego Garcia’s return to the U.S., and another court last week called the government’s arguments against returning Abrego Garcia “shocking” and “lawless.”

While Trump and his wife Melania celebrated Easter at White House events earlier this week — including a corporate-sponsored Easter Egg Roll — many immigrants may be forgoing such observances for fear they could be detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents while they are worshipping. Earlier this month, a federal judge ruled in favor of the Trump administration, granting ICE permission to conduct enforcement operations in places of worship. The plaintiffs in the case, several religious groups, have said they are reviewing the decision and weighing their options for moving forward.

“We remain gravely concerned about the impacts of this policy and are committed to protecting foundational rights enshrined in the First Amendment and the Religious Freedom Restoration Act,” lead plaintiffs counsel Kelsi Corkran, Supreme Court Director at the Institute for Constitutional Advocacy & Protection, told The Associated Press.

Trump also, of course, threw in an attack at Joe Biden, calling him “our WORST and most Incompetent President” while also perpetuating the Big Lie that “people… CHEATED in the 2020 Presidential Election in order to get this highly destructive Moron Elected.” Several reliable entities, including the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, determined that the 2020 election was the most secure in American history.

In a third Easter message, Trump vowed to “make America bigger, better, stronger, wealthier, healthier, and more religious, than it has ever been before!!!”

But it will certainly be hard to make America healthier while his secretary of Health and Human Services is eliminating broad swaths of public health infrastructure and pushing vaccine skepticism. And many Americans became poorer, not wealthier when the stock market plummeted amid the administration’s punishing tariffs regime.
