TUDN has said it will take legal action against Pachuca after the Liga MX club prevented Saturday’s game against Club América from being broadcast in the United States.
The match at Pachuca’s Estadio Hidalgo was set to be shown on TUDN and Univision, with kickoff set for 7 p.m. ET.
On Friday, Pachuca
announced that the match wouldn’t be shown in Mexico on the free streaming platform Tubi due to a legal dispute between the club and Fox Sports, the owner of Tubi.
However, TUDN charged that the match still should have been available for fans in the United States.
TUDN, the sports programming division of Univision, released a statement on Saturday condemning Pachuca and charging the club with breach of contract.
“Today, Club Pachuca unjustifiably prevented TUDN from broadcasting the match in the United States,” the statement read.
“As a result of this arbitrary action, U.S. fans of Club América, Pachuca and Liga MX will not be able to watch the matchday 14 game scheduled for today at 7:00 p.m. ET (6 p.m. CT / 4 p.m PT).
“TUDN will take appropriate legal action for the harm being suffered by our audience and for Club Pachuca’s breach of contract.
“Our deepest apologies to soccer fans in the United States. It comes as a surprise that, due to Club Pachuca’s legal disputes, fans in North America will not be able to watch today’s match on any television signal or audiovisual platform.”
Club América entered Saturday’s match in first place in the Liga MX table, with Pachuca nine points back in seventh place.
