U.S. Rep. Riley Moore tours El Salvador prison, takes selfie with prisoners

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WCHS) — U.S. Rep. Riley Moore took a tour of an El Salvador prison Tuesday that included a selfie with prisoners and said he came away “even more determined” to back the president’s efforts to “secure our homeland.”

Moore, a Republican who represents West Virginia’s 2nd congressional district, toured the CECOT maximum security prison, according to his social media post Tuesday night.

“This maximum security facility houses the country’s most brutal criminals, including murderers, rapists, pedophiles, and terrorists,” Moore said in the post. “Several inmates were extremely violent criminals recently deported from the U.S. I leave now even more determined to support President Trump’s efforts to secure our homeland.”

Moore posted photos from the tour that included a selfie with prisoners and another of him giving a thumbs up in front of the prisoners.

The Trump administration has been working with El Salvador to imprison deportees who it claims are alleged members of the gangs Tren de Aragua and MS-13.

The visit comes amid controversy over the deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia to El Salvador. The Maryland father was mistakenly deported to the CECOT prison along with several other men alleged to be gang members.

Abrego Garcia has no criminal record in the U.S. or elsewhere.

The U.S. Supreme Court has called his deportation illegal and directed the White House to facilitate his return, but the president of El Salvador has refused to release Abrego Garcia.

Moore did not address Abrego Garcia or his deportation in the social media post.
