The season wraps up with an epic matchup of legacy programs and legendary coaches as No. 1 South Carolina faces No. 2 UConn in the NCAA women’s championship game Sunday in Tampa, Florida.
Going into the NCAA tournament, these were two of the favorites to win it all. On one side, you have the defending champion Gamecocks led by head coach Dawn Staley, who has built her program into a dynasty with three NCAA titles since 2017. On the other side is a UConn program that’s won 11 national titles under head coach Geno Auriemma, but his team hasn’t won a crown since 2016.

South Carolina has had the most success in recent years, but the Huskies boast the biggest star in the game in senior All-American Paige Bueckers — though coach Staley doesn’t want the game to be all about the UConn guard. The Gamecocks have plenty of talented players of their own.
