A blue blood program is back on top in the college basketball world, as the Connecticut Huskies have won the 2025 NCAA Women’s Basketball National Championship.
The Huskies became champions by taking down the defending champions, South Carolina, in the national title game on Sunday, avenging their loss in the 2022 final.
The Gamecocks were trying to become the first team since UConn won four straight championships from 2013 to 2016. That title run nine years ago was the Huskies’ last championship prior to this season.
UConn claimed its 12th championship in program history, with 11 titles coming in the 21st century. The team was led by future WNBA star Paige Bueckers, with Gino Auriemma guiding the team in his 40th season of service.
