Syracuse, N.Y. — A tornado warning issued Sunday afternoon for the Syracuse area has expired as severe storms passed through the region.
A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was moving northeast at 70 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
It was expected to pass through Onondaga County at the following times:
- Skaneateles and Marcellus around 4:40 p.m.
- New York State Fairgrounds, Camillus and Syracuse around 4:45 p.m.
- Liverpool and Galeville around 4:50 p.m.
- Cicero around 4:55 p.m.
The weather service recommended residents to move to a basement or interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. It also advised staying away from windows.
The warning expired at 5 p.m.
Much of Central New York remains under a severe thunderstorm warning until 6 p.m.
Winds up to 60 mph and pea-sized hail are possible, the weather service said.
