Decades ago, you had to remind people to “say nice things about Detroit.”
These days, Detroit’s image is brimming with positivity, and nothing illustrates that better than the many businesses and institutions big and small that go all out to celebrate “313 Day” each year on March 13.
The participation and hype for the Motor City-boosting holiday has grown each year, especially since it was made official by the City Council in 2023. It is, of course, a reference to the city’s illustrious area code, 313, which is recognized across the globe largely thanks to rap songs and merchandise.
There are endless ways to celebrate 313 Day Thursday. We suggest breakfast at the Clique on Jefferson, a stroll around Belle Isle or the Detroit Institute of Arts to see Tiff Massey’s “7 Mile + Livernois” exhibit, lunch at Duly’s Coney Island in southwest Detroit and maybe dinner at one of those swanky new hotel restaurants.
Here are many more ways to honor the holiday with this list of 313 Day events planned around Detroit proper.
