Why Did Hilary Farr Leave ‘Love It or List It’? What She’s Said

After 19 incredible seasons, Hilary Farr announced that she’s parting ways with Love It or List It. She first starred on the home transformation series in 2008 alongside realtor David Visentin. Her decision to leave the long-running show left fans baffled and searching for answers. Now, David is returning to his role alongside HGTV star Page Turner, leaving fans wondering about Hilary’s departure.

In an interview with PEOPLE, Hilary revealed that she made the decision to leave shortly after filming the 19th season. “I realized that everything that I am as a woman, which is [that I] look for challenges, look for inspiration, look for new ideas, be excited about all the possibilities that are out there, had really needed to bloom and find their way. I told everyone I’m done,” she said.

Most recently, the HGTV star shared a farewell post on Instagram that took fans on a trip down memory lane. She simply captioned it, “Thanks for the memories!”

Hilary shared new and old photos of herself with Love It or List It co-host David Visentin. Needless to say, fans had a ton of emotions and flooded the comment section with their thoughts.

“Ohhh I love this Hillary it was a joy watching you both through the years. Thank you for all the episodes all the laughs and the beautiful kitchens. We will never forget you 💗,” wrote one person. “NOOOOOOOOOO. I love this show and you both work so well together. Will miss you all” and “Loved watching your show and always loved your style- your kitchens were next level. Congratulations on all you’ve done and good luck with your future ventures 💙,” said others.

After being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2014, Hilary says her perspective on life (and what truly matters) shifted. “I’m now very aware of really wanting to take joy out of every day, and now that’s one of the reasons that it was time to leave Love It or List It, because it was becoming too easy…I was in a rut. It’s been so many years. You want to feel that every day is something different and special and grasp for those challenges. That’s really what I think drives me, anyway,” she told PEOPLE.

Hilary is now in remission and has reassured fans that she’s not leaving television altogether. While the news of her leaving Love It or List It may feel bittersweet, Hilary has no plans of leaving her other HGTV show, Tough Love, quite yet.

With several projects that she’s passionate about on the horizon, including building a “tiny house” on a plot of land she purchased in Italy, Hilary has exciting things in store for fans.
