DEDHAM, Mass. (WJAR) — Kerry Roberts returned to the stand Wednesday in the second Karen Read murder trial in Norfolk Superior Court.

Read is accused of hitting her Boston police officer boyfriend, John O’Keefe, with her SUV in January 2022 and leaving him to die in the snow.

The defense said it believes someone else killed O’Keefe and that Read was framed.

Roberts, a friend of O’Keefe and an acquaintance of Read testified about the taillight on the defendant’s SUV.

“The piece was missing,” Roberts said.

“Do you think I hit him? Do you think I hit him?” Roberts says Read asked her.

Read’s first trial ended in a mistrial last year.

Despite a series of appeals, she is still facing three charges, including second-degree murder.

On Tuesday, following opening remarks, the prosecution called its first witnesses.

The first witness he called was paramedic Timothy Nuttall, who testified that when he responded to the scene that morning, a frantic Read said, “I hit him. I hit him. I hit him.”

This story will be updated with the latest information.

NBC 10 News will provide complete streaming coverage of the trial on turnto10.com, the NBC 10 WJAR YouTube channel and the NBC 10 Facebook page.
