PORTLAND (WGME) — Thursday is an exciting day for folks looking forward to warmer weather, as it is the start of spring!
Certain things happen between the sun and the Earth on this day as well.
There is both equal night and day on the equinox, as the center of the sun is directly over the equator.
In Portland, the sun will rise at 6:43 AM and will set at 6:53 PM.
The first day of spring, also known as the Vernal Equinox, can occur on March 19th, 20th, or 21st. It usually starts on March 20th or 21st. In 2024, however, it began on March 19th, which is less common.
